Design Development Tatton Park RHS - Concept
BRIEF: MAKE A STATEMENT
The first stage for our Tatton Park competition submission was to interpret the brief into a concept. MAKE A STATEMENT immediately triggered similar ideas between the group, that of flamboyance and expression, one that is almost theatrical, resembling elements such as feather bowers, over embellishment and bold, bright colours.
We combined this idea with the natural diversity between plants, their colour, form and features into a concept that personifies the individual and striking qualities of each plant, symbolic of the differing and complementing nature of human beings. In our views, beliefs, likes and dislikes, the variety throughout humankind is a central and conflicting contributer. It has been the foundation for debate since the evolution of mankind and in today's society still poses grave adversity to varying groups and individuals.
Our concept grew to encapsulate this idea, displaying plants that are architectural and individually striking, living together in a harmonious disposition. The intention is to caputure the eye of spectators, to inspire an understanding of the differing and juxtaposing qualities in nature and to be empathetic and inspired by the diversity of our species, rather than alienating and oppressing.
We have a shared goal and are the same in our dissimilarities. We must all look to ourselves to make the change we wish to see in the world, choosing kindness and acceptance while embracing our individuality.
