Galleon Grove

Above are some quick conceptual sketches of 'Galleon Grove' an area within the wetland design of Castle Meads.

Galleon: A large sailing ship used from the 15th to the 17th centuries, primarily for war or trade.

Nestled on the flood plains adjacent to Gloucester City's historic docklands, Castle Meads is a captivating nature reserve where history and habitat merge seamlessly. Galleon Grove is a unique sanctuary that features old boat fragments emerging from the wetlands, resembling the skeletal remains of ancient sea creatures. These dramatic installations evoke the area’s maritime past, transforming the landscape into a living museum of natural and nautical history. Visitors to Galleon Grove can wander through lush pathways, explore diverse wetland habitats, and reflect on the ghostly galleons that whisper stories of the sea. This reserve not only preserves local wildlife but also serves as a poignant reminder of the ships that once sailed from Gloucester's bustling docks.
